WILLIAMSTOWN HIGH SCHOOL BAND

UNIFORM CARE POLICY

  1. All WHS marching band members will be issued a uniform that consists of:

    a. jacket

    b. new pants (bib overalls)

    c. old pants (suspenders or 2nd pair of bib overalls)

    d. hat with plume in hatbox

    e. raincoat

These are purchased and maintained by the band boosters and are the property of the band.

  1. All members will purchase their own gloves each year and a garment bag for the first year only. All new members will purchase their shoes. Returning members may re-use their shoes if they still fit and are in good condition; otherwise, they will purchase a new pair. If there is a financial need, please contact the band director or band booster treasurer for arrangements.

  2. Colorguard members will have their own uniform for marching season and will be issued the regular uniform (minus the hat) for concert season. They will need to purchase shoes and gloves. If the colorguard uniforms for marching season do not require dry cleaning, the colorguard members or the colorguard instructor will be responsible for cleaning these uniforms. They will also be charged a smaller dry-cleaning fee for the use of the regular uniforms during concert season. If uniform items are personalized or are the personal property of the guard members, they will be responsible for the charges. If prior approval is received from the band director, the band boosters will pay for colorguard uniforms that become the property of the band.

  3. Members will be charged a dry-cleaning fee that is due by the first day of band camp for the upcoming school year. This fee will be determined based on dry-cleaning costs. Currently, the fees cover roughly 88% of the costs and the band boosters make up the difference.

  4. The band boosters will take care of transporting all dirty uniforms to the dry cleaners, returning the clean uniforms to the garment bags, and doing simple alterations and repairs.

  5. Band members are not to take their uniform home unless given permission by the band director or the parent in charge of uniforms.

  6. If any member has a problem with the uniform, such as a ripped hem, missing snap, etc., he or she needs to tell the uniform parent as soon as this is discovered so it can be repaired.

  7. Members are to keep only 1 pair of shoes in their garment bags. Overloading the bags causes them to rip at the top and to be very heavy to lift when volunteers put the clean uniforms back in them. Overloaded bags also take up too much room on the rack and cause wrinkling of the uniforms.

  8. If any member gains or loses more than 10 pounds or if any member notices that the sleeve cuffs or pant hems are too short or too long, tell the uniform parents right away so alterations can be made. If parents want to do the alterations themselves, they need to get permission from the band director or the parent in charge of uniforms prior to the alterations.

  9. Please do not trade any part of the assigned uniform for one from stock unless a uniform parent is with you. This way we can write down the new number and get it back to you.

  10. Do not march on long pant hems. This ruins the pants and we can't let the hems out in the future. If this is discovered on the current student's pants, either the student or their parent will have to pay ½ of the cost of a new pair of pants. (Currently, this is about $173.00 for 1 new pair of pants)

  11. There are extra shoes, gloves, “W” sashes, plumes, etc. Just ask a uniform parent for help. Please return any items like this that you borrow once you are finished with them.

  12. Keep your garment bags clean; no dirty clothes, trash, etc. Do not keep valuables in the garment bags or uniform jackets after a performance.

  13. Do not stand in your hat box. This breaks the hinges.

  14. If something accidentally happens to your uniform, please tell a uniform parent or the band director right away. Any major damage to any part of the uniform from abuse or neglect will result in that student or parent having to pay for professional repair and/or cleaning if the uniform parents can not reasonably fix the damage. If the uniform item is deemed unusable, the cost of a new item will be charged to the student or parent. Current prices are:

      a. pants $173.00

      b. jacket $341.00

      c. raincoat – at least $60.00

      d. hat – at least $40.00

16. The band director has the final say in any decisions regarding issues with the uniforms.

Please sign and return to the band director or uniform parent.

I have read and understand the preceding uniform policy and agree to abide by it. The band director will make any final decisions regarding any issues with the uniforms.
